Matcha tea is a powdered tencha tea whose leaves are shaded for three weeks before picking. The shading produces more chlorophyll in the tea leaves, resulting in a rich green colour.

Matcha has an unforgettable flavour of cream and seaweed, very thick, maritime, tart, with a long, slightly bitter aftertaste.

There are many variations on the preparation of this tea, but perhaps the most popular is to whip the powder with a whisk in hot water or milk. The result is a very useful drink: it strengthens the walls of blood vessels, helps digestion, helps detoxify the body, has an antibacterial effect, relaxes and tones.
