The healing properties of rose hips have been known since ancient times. Traditional medicine recommends taking rosehip infusions and decoctions for vitamin deficiency, oedema, liver and biliary tract diseases, nephritis (pyelonephritis), atherosclerosis, frequent bleeding, scurvy, hormonal disorders, neurosis, anaemia, and to strengthen the immune system.
Rosehip fruits are rich in vitamin C, its content is several dozen times higher than in lemon, they also contain flavonoids, organic acids (venolic, linoleic, linolenic, etc.), sugars, tannins and pectin substances, carotene, vitamins B1, B2, P, PP, K, mineral salts of iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, which are involved in the regulation of redox processes in the body, reduce the permeability and fragility of capillaries, and have astringent, diuretic and choleretic effects.
Rosehip infusion: pour 200 ml of boiling water over 10 g of berries, leave to infuse for 1 hour, strain, and take 1/2 cup 2-3 times a day before meals.
Dried berries can be added to regular tea. In this case, it is recommended to pour more infusion and drink such tea for longer, as well as prepare the drink in advance for brewing.
Since rosehip contains a lot of ascorbic acid, it is contraindicated for people who are prone to metabolic disorders with the formation oxalates.
