Incense
Incense can become an integral part of your tea ceremony if you choose the right scent.
Incense aromas can be divided by levels of impact:
- High — translucent, light, delicate, easily evaporated.
- Medium — calm, warm, slightly tart, "grounded".
- Low — heavy, evening, perfume, oriental.
For each situation, you need to choose the right tone. Incense can be pure — from one aroma, but more often it is a mixture of several components with a dominant note that is more memorable and lasts longer.
The country of origin of the incense also matters.
Indian sticks are usually cheap, with an intrusive sweet, heavy aroma. They are not suitable for a home tea ceremony, because they interrupt the aroma of tea. They are better used outdoors.
The aroma of Tibetan or Nepalese incense is lighter, warmer, with woody and herbal notes. Well suited for meditation.
Chinese and Japanese incense with a dry, warm, woody aroma are perfect for a home tea ceremony. They do not smoke, do not interrupt the aroma of tea, but carefully complement it.
