Tea bowls
The choice of a tea cup for a tea ceremony is important, because it determines the taste and aroma of the drink, as well as the pace of tea drinking. Below you will find our tips on choosing your tea cup.
Material:
Bowls are made from different materials — ceramics, porcelain, clay, glass, and each of them has its own advantages.
Clay is well suited for highly fermented teas that like heat — for red, Shu Pu Erh, Wuyi oolongs. We do not recommend using a clay bowl for aromatic oolongs: clay absorbs odors well, so such tea can easily "get lost" in it.
Elegant porcelain bowls are well suited for delicate teas — white, green, light oolongs. In them, the aroma of tea will be bright, and the taste delicate.
A glazed ceramic bowl is universal, suitable for any tea. It retains heat well and does not accumulate odors.
A glass bowl cools down quite quickly, but allows you to admire the color of the infusion.
Size:
The smaller the bowl, the faster the tea in it cools down. Small bowls are good for getting to know tea. If you are planning a long, leisurely tea party, we recommend choosing medium-sized bowls. The tea in such a bowl will cool down gradually, and you will be able to feel the change in the taste and aroma of the drink.
Shape:
The bowl should be light and comfortable for you, not slip in your hand. The wider the bowl, the faster the tea in it cools down, so dark teas that we brew with boiling water are best drunk from them. Tall, elongated cups are well suited for aromatic teas, since this shape of the bowl allows you to collect all the aroma of the drink.
